Driving Under-the-Influence (DUI) Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) Integration Outreach Project. January 2019 to Present

Approximately 118,000 people enroll in DUI programs each year. Prior to DUI MAT, there were no established mechanisms in place to identify, assess, refer, and manage OUD and Poly SUD in DUI treatment programs. The DUI MAT Project provides the framework to optimize DUI Programs to become new and effective access points for MAT and other treatment modalities.

DUI MAT data collection defines the population of OUD and Poly SUD persons who are reached through interaction with the DUI treatment system through integration and outreach activities.

The DUI MAT Project helps to:

  • Fulfill the MAT Expansion Project objective to, “Transform entry points for individuals with opioid use disorders and create effective referrals into treatment” and the supporting goal of “adding 200+ new MAT access points throughout California.”
  • Provides additional tools and resources aimed at reducing DUI recidivism, increasing public safety on the roadways, and helping more people who suffer from OUD and other polysubstance addictions access treatment.
  • Best practices can be utilized to update future DUI Program regulations for DUI offender education, and the identification, assessment and treatment referral of OUD and Poly SUD.
